I read the article on "Internet Coupons For Beginners" by Miles Olsen. While I agree that using the Internet for coupons can be a great way to save money, one problem I have found is that some stores won't accept them. When I present the coupon, they tell me the reason they won't accept them is that because photocopiers have become so good they have no way of telling whether or not the coupon was printed from a printer or copied on a copier. And they are not supposed to accept photocopied coupons, only ones printed directly from the Internet to a printer. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on this? I would love to use grocery coupons from the Internet in my local grocery store but I'm finding I can't.

We ran into this at our local Wal-Mart Super Center where my daughter got into a confrontation with one of the assistant managers who made some nasty insinuations that they were photo copies. They quite simply were not. I had printed them off on my own computer! We were both furious and she called the 800 Wal-Mart line to complain. One of the managers called and told her that if there was another problem (since I had yet to use my coupon) to ask for her.
I got around this by using the self-check counter. When done, I pressed the coupon button, scanned and deposited as directed by the computer and it went without a glitch. So I suggest that when and if possible, use self-checkout to use these coupons.

I find that many grocery stores will take them if they scan in their register/computer. To help this, when I print coupons, I make sure I use the high quality print option and have plenty of ink. If I print them when I am running out of ink, the coupon often does not work at the grocery store.

I encountered this problem before. So, I emailed the company headquarters and asked them about their Internet coupon policy. (I called two stores that are competitors.) One store was willing to accept the coupons printed out but will not take anything that says "free" on it. I just started to do most of the coupon shopping at that store and use the other store, which at first didn't accept Internet coupons, as my loss leader store. Let them know that you are disappointed in the policy, will shop elsewhere, and will spread the word.
